The Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf) is a voluntary association of eminent South African scholars and scientists, established in terms of an Act of Parliament. Its primary objective is generating evidence-based solutions to the problems and challenges facing South African society.

ASSAf aspires to play both a national and an international role in the field of science. Membership of the Academy (by election) is both an honour and an obligation to work individually and collectively (as the Academy) to ensure that decision-making requiring scholarly scrutiny and analysis is based on the best and most integrated understandings and insights available to the country.

The Academy seeks to appoint an Administrative Assistant/receptionist to serve as the primary administrative support person for the general operations of the Academy office under the supervision of the Financial Manager and as directed by the Executive Officer.

The responsibilities will include inter alia:

  • Performing of all Receptionist related duties and a voice of contact to visitors and callers.
  • Providing secretarial, administrative and personal assistant support to the Executive Officer as well as management staff as and when required.
  • Communicating and interacting with both national and international stakeholders.
  • Organising and scheduling meetings and appointments.
  • Facilitating in-office catering arrangements for meetings where appropriate.
  • Arranging all logistics for Council members and members of Council sub-committees.
  • To coordinate all postal logistics which includes sorting, distributing and dispatching of letters and parcels to the post office and courier services.
  • To administer the acquisition of office supplies, that is stationery, computer consumables and kitchen supplies.

Requirements:

  • A post-Matric qualification with certified training in an appropriate field.
  • 3 years’ relevant experience in dealing with diverse stakeholders including organising complex logistics, nationally and internationally.
  • Good oral and written communications skills in English.
  • Advanced computing skills, including MS Office and Internet.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Proven office management skills, attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.

The remuneration package will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
