The South African Journal of Science is a scholarly open access, multidisciplinary journal published bimonthly by the Academy of Science of South Africa. The Journal’s mandate is to publish original research with an interdisciplinary and regional African focus, as well as to provide a forum for the discussion of news and developments in research and higher education.
As a multidisciplinary journal, the Editorial Board comprises ten, part-time, discipline-specific Associate Editors who are responsible for managing the peer review of manuscript submissions in their respective research fields.
The South African Journal of Science is offering two one-year mentoring opportunities for early career academics or researchers who wish to gain valuable editorial experience working closely with an Associate Editor. The mentorship is open to emerging South African researchers who hold a PhD in the field of Engineering & Technology OR in Agriculture & Forestry. Applicants may be based anywhere in South Africa and should have a publication record, but previous editorial experience is not required.
Applications should be submitted to sajs@assaf.org.za and must include:
- Identifying the mentorship for which you are applying (either Engineering & Technology OR Agriculture & Forestry)
- A CV that includes a list of published papers
- Names and contact details of three referees
- A motivation detailing your suitability as a candidate, your aspirations for the South African Journal of Science, and your expectations of the mentorship
The mentorship is a part-time position and can be performed as part of academic responsibilities.
