SAJS Board member is first African woman elected VP of IUGS
Hassina Mouri, a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of SAJS and professor of medical geology at the University of Johannesburg, has been elected Vice-President of the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS) for 2020–2024. The IUGS is one of the world’s largest scientific bodies and Mouri is the first African woman to be elected to this role. Mouri was nominated by the National Research Foundation and received 38% of the votes in the IUGS Council meeting.
