International Human Rights conference on The Role of National Academies and Universities in Promoting Human Rights and Enhancing Equality

The Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf) and the International Human Rights Network of Academies and Scholarly Societies (IHRN) will jointly host the 14th Biennial Meeting of the IHRN from 6 to 8 June 2023 in Pretoria, South Africa at The Capital Menlyn Maine hotel.

The IHRN is composed of national academies and scholarly societies from approximately 90 countries and works to address shared science and human rights concerns. The upcoming public symposium in Pretoria will focus on the role that the scientific, health and engineering communities can play in promoting human rights and enhancing equality, particularly through national academies and universities.

The opening activity will be an Early Career Scholars Panel on the Role of National Academies and Universities in Promoting Human Rights and Enhancing Equality.

This will be followed by an invitation only dinner with Justice Narandra Jody Kollapen, Constitutional Court of South Africa, as keynote speaker.

A public session (to be live streamed) on the Role of National Academies and Universities in Promoting Human Rights and Enhancing Equality will be held on 7 June 2023.

On 8 June a closed session will be held for representatives of academies from across the world, who will have the opportunity to discuss relevant activities of IHRN-participating academies and  ongoing  human rights concerns.
