The Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf) is a voluntary association of eminent South African scholars and scientists, established in terms of an Act of Parliament. Its primary objective is generating evidence-based solutions to the problems and challenges facing South African society.

ASSAf aspires to play both a national and an international role. Membership of the Academy (by election) is both an honour and an obligation to work individually and collectively (as the Academy) to ensure that decision-making requiring scholarly scrutiny and analysis is based on the best and most integrated understandings and insights available to the country.

The Academy seeks to appoint a Manager to provide leadership to its many and wide-ranging project-based activities aimed at providing science advice to government. The incumbent will also be expected to take responsibility for relations with international science academies and academy networks, and to develop and maintain relations with national stakeholders, including government, professional associations and the private sector.

This senior position is a 3-year, renewable contract and requires applicants to have a PhD in any appropriate discipline and relevant work experience in science policy and international liaison.
