DESCRIPTION:World Book and Copyright Day\, internationally celebrated on 23 April 2022\, promotes the enjoyment of books and reading. The Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf) recognises the scope of books – a link between the past and the future\, a bridge between generations and across cultures. \nBy championing books and copyright\, ASSAf supports UNESCO in standing up for creativity\, diversity and equal access to knowledge\, with the work across the board – from the Creative Cities of Literature network to promoting literacy and mobile learning and advancing Open Access to scientific knowledge and educational resources. The COVID-19 pandemic has also reminded us all of the importance of books and reading for comfort and escapism. We’ve all needed it during the past two years. \nIn the preparation for World Book and Copyright Day\, you are encouraged to challenge yourself\, to explore new topics\, formats\, or genres that are out of your ordinary. \nASSAf would like to encourage you to participate in the UNESCO #bookface challenge. \nTake a picture of yourself with a book cover so that it blends into your reality and submit! \nhttps://en.unesco.org/commemorations/worldbookday
