During 2020, a novel coronavirus, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2), spread to almost all countries worldwide. Although less deadly than SARS-CoV-1, which killed at least 770 people in 2003/4 and had a mortality rate of around 11%, the novel virus is highly transmissible and causes a pneumonia-like disease, known as coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), with a mortality rate of around 1%. By the end of June 2020, more than 10 million cases of COVID-19 and 500,000 deaths had been reported. Click here to access the report.
