ASSAf annually invites a distinguished visiting scholar, who is an internationally recognised scholar, an inspirational speaker and who can bridge the divides between disciplines, to visit South Africa for the purpose of giving public lectures and interacting with local scholars in various centres across the country.
ASSAf Members are hereby requested to submit a nomination of an outstanding scholar in the field of Humanities who meets the above description (in terms of Regulation 6.1, scholars from the Humanities disciplines will be invited in alternate years). The successful candidate should be relevant to the socio-economic challenges the country faces and should add value to local discussions in this regard.
The nomination should include a motivation for the nomination and a full curriculum vitae of the candidate. The annual process of nominating persons for the ASSAf Visiting Scholar in 2018 will be carried out in accordance with Regulation 6 of the Academy, attached hereto as an annexure.
No honorarium shall be paid to the ASSAf Distinguished Visiting Scholar, but all personal expenses arising from the visit will be covered or reimbursed. Expenses incurred by the national and local hosts will also be covered or reimbursed.
Please send the nomination, brief motivation and full curriculum vitae of the candidate to Mrs Renate Venier, by email to email@example.com. The deadline for submissions is 30 March 2018.
