Quest: Nominations for the Quest Editorial Advisory Board (deadline extended)

Quest: Science for South Africa is a popular science magazine published by the Academy of Science of South Africa. The magazine’s target audience are grade 8-12 learners and undergraduate students who have an interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and innovation (STEMi). The magazine covers a variety of topics from all sciences and aims to extend the target audiences’ understanding of the sciences and to promote science across the sections of the target group.

Composition
The Editorial Board of the Quest science magazine published by the Academy of Science of South Africa is comprised of between 8-10 members for a three-year term. The Board meets once per year, usually in February. The Terms of Reference stipulate that The Editorial Board shall consist of the Executive Officer of ASSAf (Chair), a Member of the ASSAf Council, a representative of the South African Young Academy of Science, the Editor-in-Chief of the SAJS, the Editor, two representatives from the education sector, and three other persons appointed for a three-year term. Members may serve on the Board for a maximum of two consecutive three-year terms. 

Invitation
Quest: Science for South Africa invites all members to nominate individuals who are academics, researchers or practitioners to serve for a three-year term. The nominated individuals should be in the education sector (basic or higher) and specialize in either Physics, Mathematics or Chemistry and have a love to share science with young people. Nominees may be based anywhere in South Africa and should have a science communication record, but a science communication qualification is not required. Volunteers are also welcome nominate themselves.

  1. Request the nominee to complete Section A. Please note that this form must be signed by the nominee and be emailed back to you (electronic signatures will be accepted).
  1. As the nominator, please check Section A and add to it if you wish.
  1. Complete Section B and sign as the nominator (electronic signatures will be accepted).
  1. Send the completed nomination form comprising Sections A and B, as an emailed attachment and the candidate’s full CV to Mr Tsepo Majake at tsepo@assaf.org.za and Mrs Susan Veldsman at susan@assaf.org.za by no later than 29 February 2020.
