The South African Journal of Science is an open access, multidisciplinary journal published bimonthly by the Academy of Science of South Africa. The Journal’s mandate is to publish original research with an interdisciplinary and regional Africa focus and to provide a forum for discussion of news and developments in research and higher education.
As a multidisciplinary journal, the Journal’s editorial board is composed of ten, part-time, discipline-specific Associate Editors who are responsible for managing the peer review of submissions in their disciplines.
The South African Journal of Science is offering a one-year mentoring opportunity for early career researchers to gain valuable editorial experience working with an Associate Editor and the editorial office. The opportunity is open to emerging South African researchers with a PhD in the fields of Organismal Biology and Cell, Molecular & Health Sciences. Candidates should have a publication record but little or no editorial experience.
Applications should be submitted to sajs@assaf.org.za and must include:
- The mentorship for which you are applying (Organismal Biology / Cell, Molecular & Health Sciences)
- A CV including a list of published papers and three references
- A motivation detailing your suitability as a candidate, your aspirations for the South African Journal of Science, and your expectations of the mentorship
The mentorship is an unpaid, part-time position and can be accomplished as part of current academic responsibilities. Candidates can be based anywhere in South Africa.
