Himla Soodyall honoured with AIMS Lifetime Achievement Award

The Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf) is proud to announce that Professor Himla Soodyall, Executive Officer of ASSAf, has been awarded the prestigious AIMS Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of her outstanding contributions to science, leadership, and the advancement of research in Africa.

The award, conferred by the African Institute for Medical Sciences (AIMS), celebrates individuals who have made a lasting impact on science and society through exceptional scholarship, mentorship, and service. Professor Soodyall is internationally renowned for her pioneering research in human population genetics, which has significantly advanced our understanding of human origins and migration patterns.

In addition to her groundbreaking scientific work, Professor Soodyall has been a tireless advocate for science engagement, capacity development, and the promotion of young researchers across the African continent. Through her leadership at ASSAf and her involvement in global scientific networks, she continues to champion inclusive science that addresses the pressing challenges facing humanity.
