Call for participation in Climate Change and Mental Health: Comparative Risk Pathways, Vulnerability, and Resilience workshop

The Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf), in partnership with the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina, is pleased to invite applications for participation in the international workshop:

 “Climate Change and Mental Health: Comparative Risk Pathways, Vulnerability, and Resilience

📍 South Africa

📅 8–10 September 2026

This workshop forms part of the joint ASSAf–Leopoldina series on Climate Change and Health and will bring together emerging scientists from South Africa and German-speaking countries (Germany, Austria, and Switzerland).

The workshop will:

  • Examine direct and indirect pathways linking climate change and mental health
  • Explore vulnerability, resilience, and inequality across contexts
  • Compare national impacts and preparedness
  • Produce a short joint policy paper integrating mental health into climate adaptation and mitigation strategies
