BACKGROUND
South Africa is currently grappling with a notable resurgence of measles, a highly contagious viral infection that poses a serious threat to public health. This outbreak has raised concerns about immunisation coverage, healthcare infrastructure, and the broader impact on community well-being. As a means of contributing towards a solution, ASSAf is hosting a webinar to propose strategies to effectively manage and mitigate the ongoing and future measles outbreaks.
This webinar aims to:
- Inform: Communicate accurate and up-to-date information about the measles outbreak, including its causes, transmission, symptoms, and potential consequences.
- Discuss Contributing Factors: Examine factors that have contributed to the outbreak, such as vaccine hesitancy, gaps in immunisation coverage, healthcare access disparities, and challenges in disease surveillance.
- Share Best Practices: Explore successful strategies employed by healthcare organisations, government agencies, and NGOs to contain and manage measles outbreaks, within South Africa and globally.
- Formulate Action Plans: Collaboratively propose action plans and recommendations for immediate response and long-term prevention strategies to curb the measles outbreak and prevent future recurrences.
